History of Thermal Tourism
The use of thermal and mineral waters is as old as human history. There are many works that witness the use of thermal resources, especially in Anatolian lands.
Archeological studies show that the use of thermal waters dates back to about 5000 years ago. It is known that these natural resources were used by civilizations such as Persians, Egyptians, Romans, Turks and Vikings for recreation and rejuvenation.
For example, the establishment dates of the centers called hot springs and drinking in Anatolia date back to the Romans. It is also known that the Seljuks and Ottomans also benefited from geothermal waters.
Let's head towards some of the important hot springs in our country.
In line with the geological structure of our country, we can say that it has many hot water resources. Especially Central Anatolia and Aegean regions are very valuable in terms of thermal resources. Some of our prominent regions with hot and mineral springs are as follows;
Properties of Thermal Springs
Tips for Benefiting from the Hot Spring ...
The waters of the thermal springs are in the class of mixed thermomineral waters with calcium, sulphate and fluoride. Its total mineralization is about 1500 mg / L. In addition, Thermal Spring Water is colorless, clear and sweet.
The use of Yalova Thermal water as a bath cure is particularly effective in rheumatic diseases. The positive effects of bath cures in Yalova Thermal Springs, especially on arthritis among rheumatism diseases, and the effects of increasing the pain threshold have been demonstrated by the studies conducted by the Department of Medical Ecology and Hydroclimatology. In addition, it can be applied as a drinking cure for the prevention of dental caries due to its fluoride and sulphate content, some functional stomach and intestinal diseases (eg in bowel laziness) and gall bladder laziness.

Current Approaches in Thermal Tourism
Turkey in terms of geothermal resources, is situated among the top seven countries in the world, first in terms of resource potential in Europe, spa applications is in third place in its subject.
In order to use the natural and renewable geothermal resources in our country more effectively and efficiently, it is tried to develop an understanding and approach different from the traditional thermal spring usage.
.Some of the opportunities provided by thermal tourism;
• 12 months tourism opportunity,
• Achieving high occupancy rate in facilities,
• High employment creation,
• Ensuring regional balanced tourism development by creating easy integration with other alternative tourism types,
• In addition to activities to improve human health in thermal facilities, there are also opportunities to create healthy and fit people, recreation and entertainment,
• Facilities with cure center (treatment) integration are profitable and competitive investments that pay back the cost quickly.
THERMAL TOURISM REGIONS
Within the scope of the "Thermal Tourism Cities Project" initiated by our Ministry for the development of Health and Thermal Tourism, taking into account the geothermal potentials in our country, regional new areas have been identified.
Within the scope of this study, the determination of the geothermal resource potential and the investigation of the property in the suggestion areas to be determined accordingly, the determination of the infrastructure facilities, the association with alternative tourism types and as a result of the development strategies for thermal purposes, the provincial thermal master plan and the regional thermal master plan are prepared in the determined areas, preparation of landscaping plans.
