HEALTH AND THERMAL TOURISM

GENERAL INFORMATION

Turkey has a great importance in terms of thermal water resources. The thermal waters of the country are superior to thermal waters in Europe with their flow and temperature, as well as various physical and chemical properties. Rapidly developing health in recent years

It has also accelerated tourism and thermal investments. Terms of thermal resources, thermal ranked seventh in the world that many in Turkey, gives the hotel services. These hotels combine healing waters with hotel management, with different architectural lines, comfortable living spaces, friendly employees. and they host their guests with impeccable hosting.

THERMAL TOURISM

Thermal Tourism Definition:

In addition to various methods such as thermomineral water bath, drinking, inhalation, mud bath, cure (treatment) applications performed by combining supportive treatments such as climate cure, physical therapy, rehabilitation, exercise, psychotherapy, diet, as well as the use of thermal waters for recreational and recreational purposes is a type of tourism that occurs with.

History of Thermal Tourism

The use of thermal and mineral waters is as old as human history. There are many works that witness the use of thermal resources, especially in Anatolian lands.

Archeological studies show that the use of thermal waters dates back to about 5000 years ago. It is known that these natural resources were used by civilizations such as Persians, Egyptians, Romans, Turks and Vikings for recreation and rejuvenation.

For example, the establishment dates of the centers called hot springs and drinking in Anatolia date back to the Romans. It is also known that the Seljuks and Ottomans also benefited from geothermal waters.

Let's head towards some of the important hot springs in our country.

In line with the geological structure of our country, we can say that it has many hot water resources. Especially Central Anatolia and Aegean regions are very valuable in terms of thermal resources. Some of our prominent regions with hot and mineral springs are as follows;

Properties of Thermal Springs

Tips for Benefiting from the Hot Spring ...

The waters of the thermal springs are in the class of mixed thermomineral waters with calcium, sulphate and fluoride. Its total mineralization is about 1500 mg / L. In addition, Thermal Spring Water is colorless, clear and sweet.

The use of Yalova Thermal water as a bath cure is particularly effective in rheumatic diseases. The positive effects of bath cures in Yalova Thermal Springs, especially on arthritis among rheumatism diseases, and the effects of increasing the pain threshold have been demonstrated by the studies conducted by the Department of Medical Ecology and Hydroclimatology. In addition, it can be applied as a drinking cure for the prevention of dental caries due to its fluoride and sulphate content, some functional stomach and intestinal diseases (eg in bowel laziness) and gall bladder laziness.

Diseases for which spa treatment is beneficial

Non-inflammatory rheumatism patients, Fracture Sequelae, Circulatory system disorders, Urinary tract and gall bladder stones, Skin diseases, Healing of postoperative wounds, Gynecology and infertility, Sciatica and all kinds of neuritis, Various paralysis, Muscle diseases.

Natural Cure

It is a treatment method applied by administering the treatment agent in a certain dose, serially, at regular intervals and repeatedly for certain periods.

Spa Treatment

Soil underground and marine sources such as mineral waters, gases, peliods (muds) and climatic elements.The natural treatment elements, together with the climate possibilities in the region and other necessary treatments, in a cure style It is a treatment system where it is applied.

Balneotherapy

Bath, drinking and inhalation (inhalation) of natural treatment elements such as thermomineral waters, peloids and gases

It is used for therapeutic purposes in cure method with its methods.

Inhalation Applications

They are inhalation applications made with thermomineral water particles.

Drinking Cures

They are drinking cures made with mineral water in spas or places of residence.

Peloid therapy

It is the use of peloids, which are organic and inorganic substances formed as a result of natural, geological and biological events, as a balneotherapy method. It is known as the therapeutic use of muds.

Climatherapy

Systematic and dosed analysis of climatic factors such as air temperature, humidity, wind strength and speed, solar radiation and similar climatic factors. It is applied in curing style.

Thalassotherapy

Seawater climate under medical supervision and control for preventive and therapeutic and / or cure purposes It is a treatment system in which and its elements are applied in a cure manner.

Physical therapy and rehabilitation

Electrotherapy, exercise treatments, massage and other methods are used in spa treatment.

Classification of Thermal Waters

Thermal Waters

These are the waters whose temperature is 20 ºC and above at the exit point.

Mineral Water

They are water extracted from natural and drilling-gallery, containing at least 1 gram of dissolved mineral per liter, without bacteriological and chemical contamination, and with scientifically proven physiological and therapeutic efficacy.

Thermomineral Water

These are waters with natural temperatures over 20 C and containing at least 1 gram of dissolved mineral per liter.

Special Balneological Waters

These are waters that contain certain specific minerals above certain minimum (threshold) values. These;

• Carbon Dioxide Water: Water containing free carbon dioxide dissolved over 1 g / lt.

• Sulphurous Water: Water containing -2 valuable sulfur above 1 mg / lt,

• Radon Waters: Waters containing radon rays, above 666 Bq / lt,

• Saltworks: waters containing NaCl over 14 g / lt,

• Iodized Water: Water containing iodine over 1 mg / lt,

• Fluorinated Waters: Water containing fluoride above 1 mg / lt are classified as.

Current Approaches in Thermal Tourism

Turkey in terms of geothermal resources, is situated among the top seven countries in the world, first in terms of resource potential in Europe, spa applications is in third place in its subject.

In order to use the natural and renewable geothermal resources in our country more effectively and efficiently, it is tried to develop an understanding and approach different from the traditional thermal spring usage.

.Some of the opportunities provided by thermal tourism;

• 12 months tourism opportunity,

• Achieving high occupancy rate in facilities,

• High employment creation,

• Ensuring regional balanced tourism development by creating easy integration with other alternative tourism types,

• In addition to activities to improve human health in thermal facilities, there are also opportunities to create healthy and fit people, recreation and entertainment,

• Facilities with cure center (treatment) integration are profitable and competitive investments that pay back the cost quickly.

THERMAL TOURISM REGIONS

Within the scope of the "Thermal Tourism Cities Project" initiated by our Ministry for the development of Health and Thermal Tourism, taking into account the geothermal potentials in our country, regional new areas have been identified.

Within the scope of this study, the determination of the geothermal resource potential and the investigation of the property in the suggestion areas to be determined accordingly, the determination of the infrastructure facilities, the association with alternative tourism types and as a result of the development strategies for thermal purposes, the provincial thermal master plan and the regional thermal master plan are prepared in the determined areas, preparation of landscaping plans.

Having the capacity to integrate with other tourism types and create destinations;

Southern Marmara Thermal Tourism Cities Region

(Çanakkale, Balıkesir. Yalova)

Phrygia Thermal Tourism Cities Area

(Afyonkarahisar, Kütahya, Uşak, Eskişehir, Ankara)

Southern Aegean Thermal Tourism Cities Region

(Izmir, Manisa, Aydin, Denizli)

Central Anatolia Thermal Tourism Cities Region

(Yozgat, Kırşehir, Nevsehir, Niğde)

It has been determined as priority regions to be developed.

Also;

North Anatolian Thermal Tourism Cities Region:

Amasya, Sivas, Tokat, Erzincan

East Marmara Thermal Tourism Cities Region:

Bilecik, Kocaeli

Western Black Sea Region of Thermal Tourism Cities:

Bolu, Duzce, Sakarya
