IMPORTANT RESIDENTS OF ISTANBUL

STEAMBOAT

The first passenger ferry in today's sense on the Bosphorus operated in 1837. The real big step in passenger transportation by ferry on the Bosphorus was the establishment of the Company-i Hayriye in 1851. Today, city line ferries are connected to İDO. There are also voyages in Marmara, next to the Bosphorus line. There are flights to Haydarpaşa, Kadıköy and Islands. Ferries have become one of the symbols of the city. It is a pleasure for Istanbulites to watch the seagulls on the ferry and travel with simit and tea.

YEDIKULE CITYWALLS

They are city walls built in the Byzantine period. The walls surrounding Istanbul were built starting from the 5th century and were overhauled four times with demolitions and reconstructions. It was turned into an inner castle during the time of Sultan Mehmet. The Yedikule Walls, which are among the most important architectural works of Istanbul, are structured in the shape of a five-pointed star. In the garden of Yedikule, which is open to visitors every day of the week, 17 pieces of historical artifacts are displayed open to the public.

YILDIZ PARK

Yıldız Park, located between Beşiktaş and Ortaköy, is one of the romantic meeting places of Istanbulites. It has been a venue for various entertainments during the Çırağan orgies organized during the Tulip Period. Located inside Malta and Çadır Kiosk, the park appeals not only to residents of the district, but to all Istanbulites. ADİLE SULTAN PALACE

Adile Sultan Palace in Kandilli was built by Sultan Abdulaziz in 1876 by Sarkis Balyan. The grove surrounding the palace is entered through the gate on the coastal road. The palace was donated to the National Education by Adile Sultan before her death, with the request to become a girls' school in 1899. It was restored after the great fire it went through when it was used as Kandilli Girls High School.

AHMET AFİF PASHA MANSION

The first owner of Ahmet Afif Paşa Mansion on the Yeniköy coast is Ferendiz Hanım, daughter of Koca Reşit Pasha. Each floor of the building known as Muhayyeş Mansion has a different style. The Uzan family lived in the mansion, which was once rented as a set for Yeşilçam movies, for 17 years since the mid-80s. In 2006, TV series such as "One Thousand Nights" and "Aşk-ı Memnu" were shot in the mansion, which was controlled by the TMSF. It is also said that Agatha Christie was hosted here.

AMCAZADE MANSION

Located in the north of Anadoluhisarı in the Bosphorus, the mansion was built in 1699. The mansion, which is the oldest residence in Istanbul, was built for Grand Vizier Amcazade Hüseyin Pasha from the Köprülü family. The mansion, the original of which is a much larger complex, has remained today. The drafts of the Karlowitz Treaty were prepared in this mansion. It was destroyed during the Russian War of 1877-1878 due to immigrants settled here. Yali is currently being restored.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM

The Archeology Museum was founded by Osman Hamdi Bey in the late 19th century and was opened to visitors in 1891. In the museum, which consists of four sections, artifacts belonging to all civilizations within the borders of the Ottoman Empire are exhibited. The museum is open every day between 09.00-19.00 except Mondays.

AYA IRINI CHURCH

Hagia Eirene, the largest Byzantine church located in the outer courtyard of Topkapı Palace, stands before Istanbul residents as a museum today. The Hagia Eirene made in the early fourth century, the first venue of the museum began working in Turkey. Hagia Eirene has hosted many art activities, especially classical music concerts, since 1973.

BEYAZIT TOWER

Beyazıt Tower, built to observe the fires, consists of three sections: guard, sign and starboard floor. The tower, which was first built as wooden in 1749, was burned after II. CEMBERLITAS

Çemberlitaş column, M.S. It was erected in 330 BC in honor of Emperor Constantine, in one of the seven hills of Istanbul, today called Çemberlitaş. This column, which is 57 meters long, was removed from the Apollo temple in Rome and put in its current location. The column is connected by bracelets, each weighing three tons and three meters in diameter. It was formed by placing eight columns and a base on top of each other.

CEMBERLITAS TURKISH BATH

The Çemberlitaş Bath, built by Nurbanu Sultan, was planned as two separate, adjacent, male and female sections. Being among the most recent works of Mimar Sinan, the bathhouse continues to attract the attention of local and foreign tourists, researchers and photographers, as it is a work where simplicity and elegance meet.

CICEK PASSAGE

The lower floors are shops and the upper floors are luxury flats. The passage part of Çiçek Pasajı built in 1876, Hristaki Pasajı, Cite de Pera is a past name. In 1940, florists settled in the shops of the arcade. The passage was used like this for a while, but with the opening of the taverns, florists and residents left. The passage, whose name remains Çiçek Pasajı, is still among the most flamboyant and ornate structures in Beyoğlu.

DOLMABAHÇE PALACE

Built by Abdülmecit, Dolmabahçe Palace was opened with a ceremony after the Paris Agreement in 1856. Different styles were used together in its architecture. Ataturk's room is seen in the part of the palace called "private apartment" and the palace serves as a museum. The palace is open every day between 09.00-16.00 except Mondays and Thursdays.

ESMA SULTAN MANSION

This magnificent mansion of the Bosphorus, named after Esma Sultan, the daughter of Abdülaziz I, who was also the owner of the mansion, started to be used as a tobacco and coal warehouse after the fire and earthquake. Acquired and restored by The Marmara Hotels group in the 1990s, the mansion now hosts the most romantic weddings, fascinating organizations and artistic events.

FLORYA ATATURK MANSION

Florya Atatürk Mansion was designed for Atatürk by the Istanbul Municipality in 1935 for the architect Seyfi Arkan and was built as a summer residence. Atatürk lived here for a long time in June and July 1936. The mansion, which was turned into an Atatürk Museum, is open to visitors every day between 09.00-16.00, except Monday and Thursday.

GALATA COURT

The present-day Galata Mevlevihane, formerly known as Kulekapı Mevlevihane, was established in 1491 after the conquest of Istanbul. The Mevlevihane, which was used as the Divan Literature Museum, was opened to the public in 1975. On the second and last Fridays of each month, sema performances are held in the venue. In the cemetery to the left of the entrance are the graves of Şeyh Galip and Nayi Osman Dede.

GOKSU

Göksu, located within the borders of Anadoluhisarı, which is connected to Beykoz district, is one of the favorite locations of the city with its natural beauties and historical artifacts. Göksu and Küçüksu recreation areas are among the places that were popular with everyone during the Ottoman period. The boat pleasures made on Göksu Stream were very famous. GULHANE PARK

HAYDARPASA STATION

Haydarpaşa Train Station, which is the most important transportation point of Kadıköy, was built in 1906. It started during the reign of Abdülhamit. Built as the starting station of the Istanbul - Baghdad railway line, the station was severely damaged in the fire in 1917. The building, which was repaired in 1976 and restored in 1983, now hosts violin performances and some exhibitions.

HEKIMBASI MANSION

Hekimbaşı Salih Efendi Mansion is one of the rare mansions that preserves its original structure and original belongings. The garden of Salih Efendi, the owner of the mansion, who is very interested in roses, turns into a riot of colors when spring comes. But after Salih Efendi, the garden has never been as beautiful as before. The still standing part of the mansion consists of three separate sections. Relatives of Salih Efendi, who died in 1905, still live in the mansion and the mansion is used for private meetings.

HIDIV MANSION

It is the art nouveau style mansion of Hilmi Pasha, who was the governor of Egypt in the early 19th century of the Ottoman Empire. The tower of the Kasrı, which has a very large green garden and a unique view, has one of the first steam-powered elevators in Istanbul. Hidiv Pavilion today serves invitations and hosts guests who want to have a pleasant day.
